An electrification cooperative in Westby, 1942
Westby, Wisconsin, Rural Electrification Cooperative
The Rural Electrification Administration (REA) was created in 1935 to administer loans for electrification and telephone services in rural areas. Providing long-term, self-liquidating loans to state and local governments, to farmers' cooperatives, and to nonprofit organizations, the REA sought to provide farms with inexpensive electric lighting and power. These images are of the REA cooperative located in Westby, Vernon County, Wisconsin.
