Pension Protection Act: IRA Rollover Provides New Option for Society Supporters.
The recently adopted Pension Protection Act has incorporated a package of charitable giving incentives including an IRA rollover provision. If you are 70 ½ or older, you can still take a distribution from your IRA (up to $100,000) and transfer it directly to a qualifying charity (such as the Wisconsin Historical Foundation) without having to count the distribution as taxable income.

Barkers' $2.5 Million Gift to Fund Endowment
A $2.5 million gift from Hartley and Ruth Barker will fund an endowment to provide a permanent source of funding for the Wisconsin Historical Society director's position, according to an announcement by Mark Gajewski, president of the Society's governing Board of Curators. The Barkers, who divide their time between Scottsdale, Arizona, and Wisconsin's Door County, were both raised in Wisconsin Rapids and say their parents instilled in them a sense for the importance of philanthropy.

Mead Witter Challenge Grant Completed
In 2005 the Wisconsin Historical Society announced that the Mead Witter Foundation of Wisconsin Rapids had offered the Wisconsin Historical Foundation a special $200,000 grant opportunity in support of the Library and Archives Preservation Endowment. To secure the funds, Mead Witter required the Historical Foundation to raise another $400,000 in new gifts and pledges.
