2006 Director's Circle Event
On October 4th, 2006, the Wisconsin Historical Foundation will host the 2006 Director’s Circle Event, an invitation only event celebrating individuals and organizations who have contributed $1,000 or more in the past year.
This year’s program will focus on the spirit of the season - election season, that is.
The night will begin with a cocktail reception during which guests can enjoy a special exhibit on political cartoonists from Wisconsin. Following dinner, guests will be captivated by one of Wisconsin’s finest cartoonists, Joe Heller, whose work is revered around the country. He will give a unique, inside look into his work by drawing a new piece during the course of his presentation.
Joe Heller has been the editorial cartoonist for the Green Bay Press-Gazette since 1985, and his work is now syndicated to more than 250 newspapers across the United States. The list of awards for his cartoons includes eight Best of Gannett awards, six Milwaukee Press Club Awards, and three John Fischetti Editorial Cartoon Awards. Joe has put his editorial cartoons into a collection titled Give ‘em Heller, and he has also illustrated several children’s and comic books, as well as drawn for museum exhibits. A Wisconsin native, he was born in Oshkosh and raised in Milwaukee. He currently resides in Green Bay with his wife, two teenage daughters, and a couple of Yorkies.
Cartoon by Joe Heller that appeared in the Green Bay Press-Gazette on November 14, 1987. Featured in the book Give ‘em Heller, which can be found in the library of the Wisconsin Historical Society.
