Wisonsin Women in Education
In the early days of the territory woman from the East established female seminaries to educate the daughters of the recently relocated Easterners or the firmly established fur traders. These seminaries became the first schools for girls in the state of Wisconsin giving them an educational foundation equal to their counterparts on the East Coast. Women have played similar roles as educators throughout the state’s history in one-room schools, charter schools, and the high schools of Wisconsin. The collection reflects the full range of participation in education by women as teachers and students.
