Description: Artillerymen of Battalion A are ready for an enemy attack in a gun pit, at Saidor, New Guinea (present day Papua New Guinea). A knife is standing point down in the front log. Names (left to right) are Sergeant Robert Ledin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Private First Class Charles Evans of Hutchinson, Kansas, Private Charles Mahoney of New York City, Private First Class William Rentfro of Effingham, Illinois, Corporal Frank Parr, Lieutenant Robert Winkenwerder, Private Lawrence Barth, Private Frank Parys and Private Gordon Fabry, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

This image was published in the Milwaukee Journal on February 12th, 1943. The image and article appear on page 121 of the clipping book, Anybody Here From Wisconsin?, a reprint of the scrapbook kept by Robert Doyle's mother. Robert Doyle was a civilian war correspondent for the Milwaukee Journal during World War II, covering the experiences of Wisconsin troops in the 32nd "Red Arrow" Division, an infantry division of the United States Army National Guard. The "Red Arrow" Division consisted mainly of soldiers from Wisconsin and Michigan.
