Title: Catholic Mass at Saidor
Description: Catholic Mass at Saidor, New Guinea (present day Papua New Guinea). The Chaplain is using the hood of a jeep as an altar. Several soldiers can be are in the foreground worshipping. Trees are in the background. Robert Doyle wrote a caption for this image although it was not published at that time: "Army Jeep serves as altar at Catholic mass conducted by Father Anthony E. Burakowski, 30, Fairfield, Conn., Jan. 23 at artillery headquarters area at Saidor, New Guinea. Lieutenant Burakowski arrived at area in 'grasshopper' observation plane. It was his first plane ride. He arrived in New Guinea from America in December, 1943."

Robert Doyle was a civilian war correspondent for the Milwaukee Journal during World War II, covering the experiences of Wisconsin troops in the 32nd "Red Arrow" Division, an infantry division of the United States Army National Guard. The "Red Arrow" Division consisted mainly of soldiers from Wisconsin and Michigan.
