Wisconsin Thematic Panel 543-553
The first time out of doors in shirtsleeves is a moment of kindlier feeling, of stern and lonely reservations gladly set aside. With the passing of the last of the snow, there is a general unbuttoning Winter is an old man Winter is a fixed opinion. Among her weathered posts and growing things, the Lady of the Last of the Snow knows all the ancient seasons, the run-off of the waters, the unlocking of the heart, all the joys we might have lost from our icy will to live. Outside the window of lengthening days is the freshet of lingering hope, a grant of youth on the wintery tree. But for the passing of the snow there might be only the children of care and never the angels of innocence murmuring a promise to commit us all. |
