Description: Full-length portrait of Mary C. Gates of Chicago, later Mrs. George Walter Oakley of Madison. From the Hawley and Oakley family collections. G.W. Oakley, 1851-1923, was a nephew of David Atwood of Madison, publisher of the Wisconsin State Journal. He and Miss Gates were married in 1886.
