Calbraith Perry Rodgers in a Wright Model B at Appleton Baseball Park. Cal Rodgers, a member of the famous Perry family, learned to fly at the Wright Flying School in 1911. He did exhibition flying for several months and then competed in the Chicago International Aviation Meet.  Despite his inexperience, Rodgers set a record for time aloft. Rodgers then decided to compete for the Hearst prize for the first cross-country flight. Before undertaking that flight Rodgers flew to Appleton where Elizabeth and Frank Whiting, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, resided. Handwritten on front: "Rogers in Wright Biplane", "Appleton Base Ball Park Monday Sept 4-1911" and "Wr(?) Bellin, Judge Merrill Ga Richardson."
