This map of Cassville shows plat of town, roads, and the Mississippi River. Relief is shown by hachures. The map includes an inset map of a Plat of township no. 3 north, range no. 5 west of the 4th principal meridian. The upper left corner reads: "Cassville is pleasantly situated on an elevated strip of rich bottom land about half a mile in width at the foot of a chain of romantic bluffs and affords the only good landing for Steam boats on the east side of the Mississippi River in the Territory of Wisconsin, below the mouth of the Wisconsin River. On this account, and also because the Mississippi River at this place is unobstructed by islands, Cassville must always be an important point in the communication between the east and west sides of the river, and being surrounded on both sides by a rich, variegated and beautiful county, must become one of the largest towns above St. Louis is is twenty four miles below the mouth of Wisconsin River, twenty four above the north west corner of the sate of Illinois, and one hundred and seventy five miles from Milwaukee on Lake Michigan, with which place it will doubtless soon be connected by a rail road."
