Amérique Septentrionale: Dressée sur les Relations les Plus Modernes des Voyageurs et Navigateurs, ou se Remarquent les Etats Unis
An updated and corrected version of Robert de Vaugondy's 1750 map "Amérique Septentrionale: Dressée sur les Relations les Plus Modernes des Voyageurs et Navigateurs, et Divisée Suivant les Differentes Possessions des Européens." The borders are hand-colored, and the map shows rivers, lakes, cities, and Native American lands. An inset map in the upper left corner ("Partie Nord-Ouest De L'Amerique") shows a detailed depiction of the north west coast which had been left blank in the original map. Along with topographical features and a few cities, de Vaugondy includes notes on the routes and discoveries of various explorers (both real and mythological). An ornamental cartouche depicts fruits, vines, a turtle, a lizard, a bow, a quiver of arrows, and a feathered head dress. |
