America with those Known Parts in that Unknowne Worlde both People and Manner of Buildings | Map or Atlas | Wisconsin Historical Society
Map of North and South America showing settlements, rivers, lakes, mountains, islands and regions of the western hemisphere. It includes an inset map of Greenland and Iceland. This is one of the first atlas maps showing California as an island and to accurately (relatively) depict the east coast, including the Plymouth and Jamestown colonies. Two mythical islands sit in the most northern part shown of the Atlantic, Brasil and Frisland. The map is highly detailed and decorative, listing three names for the Pacific Ocean, and dotting the seas with engravings of ships and sea monsters. The left and right side features engravings of the Native American dress from Greenland to the southern point of South America. Eight illustrations of cities spread across the top of the map, showing the plans for the largest cities in the New World.
