L'Ameriqve Autrement le Novveav Monde et Indes Occidentales | Map or Atlas | Wisconsin Historical Society
Detailed map of North and South America. Cities, towns, forests, and mountains are shown pictorially. Duval labels regions, islands, cities, lakes, and Native American land. Duval also includes and labels the Great Lakes, though the western portions of Lac Superieur and Lac des Puans (Lake Superior and Lake Michigan respectively) remain unfinished. Several annotations and descriptive blocks of text dot the map, including one on a region entitled "Terre de Jesso," the depiction of which was the result of confusing reports by explorers on expositions in the north Pacific. In the bottom left sit two cartouches, one decorated with a floral pattern, the other ornately adorned with an illustration of a canoe, net, and a Native American man dressed in feathers, holding an unstrung bow, and accompanied by a lizard and a bird.
