Carte Nouvelle de la Louisiane, et de la Rivière de Missisipi, Découverte par feu Mr. de la Salle
Map showing the regions explored by Robert de La Salle between 1681 and 1686, as well as the route La Salle, and later Henri Joutel, took, moving north from Texas and up the Mississippi River. Regions, and a few cities, forts, lakes, and rivers are labeled. Illustrations of ships decorate the ocean, and three illustrations of bison appear in the interior of North America. A key stands along the right side, describing important points and events along the expedition route. In the upper left corner sits a detailed depiction of Niagara Falls. The title cartouche, in the lower left corner, is shown as bison hide held up by two men wearing feather and furs, the one on the left holding a bow and the one on the right a club. |
