Map or Atlas
Carte Générale des Découvertes de l'Amiral de Fonte Representant la Grande Probabilité d'un Passage au Nord Ouest
Map of the north west portion of America and Canada, as well as a small section of eastern Russia. Lakes, rivers, Native American land and the occasional settlement are marked, but this map focuses on the discoveries of Russian explorers, and particularly on the discovery of a Northwest Passage by the fictional Admiral de Fonte. Alaska is shown as a peninsula rather than a string of islands, which was more typical for this time. Numerous notes accompany the topographical features. A small key sits under the title and scale, indicating that the information shown on the map comes from the discoveries of the Russians, de Fonte, de Fuca, and Japanese maps. |
