Map or Atlas
Carte de la Louisiane et du Cours du Mississipi Avec les Colonies Anglaises
Map of America covering the Rio Grande to the Atlantic Ocean, showing boundaries, the colonies, cities, settlements, Native American lands and villages, mines, marshes, prairies, mountains, rivers, and lakes. The map also shows numerous routes of various explorers in the south and south west, and major roads along the east coast. An inset map in the lower right corner shows a detailed depiction of the mouth of the Mississippi River. A small key sits in the Gulf of Mexico, and numerous notes describe various discoveries, explorers, land, and Natives. The French colonial ambitions still show through clearly despite the map dating so late in the eighteenth century, as French Canada here contains all of the Great Lakes and territory far south of the St. Lawrence River. |
