Map or Atlas
A Plan of the City and Environs of New York in North America
Fairly detailed map of New York City and parts of Long Island. It shows streets, roads, wharves, ferries, ship yards, Fort George and the battery, public buildings, gardens, farmland (occasionally marked with the landowner's name), forests, marshes, meadows, ponds, and rivers. Several buildings and areas are marked with a letter, though the key is not attached. A few areas show future development, labeled as "New Buildings not Finished." Two roads, above Delaney's New Square, make reference to the ongoing Revolutionary War. One reads "Road to Kings Bridge where the Rebels mean to make a stand," the other "Road to Kepp's Bay where the King's Troops landed." Faint offsetting is apparent. |
