The imprint on the back of the photograph reads, "The large building on this side of the river and to the left was the P.A. Bassett flour mill, and the building to the left the American house, the approach to the river ford being between the two places. The building across the river to the right was the John Seaborn or Gen. Starks foundry, the one near the end of the bridge the P.A. Bassett heading factory, the one to the right the P. Pratt saw mill, the structure up the hill the Baraboo House, and the building beyond the heading factory the Bender brewery. The hill beyond the bridge was the H.H. Potter hop yard. The picture was taken by Mathew Mould about 1868 from near his home at the corner of Bench and Oak streets." |
