Treaty at Prairie du Chien, with Fort Crawford seen in the background. This treaty negotiated between Governor William Clark and Governor Lewis Cass and over 5,000 representatives of the Sioux, Sac, Fox, and Iowa tribes established boundaries to prevent conflict between the tribes. It also cleared the way for later land purchases. This scene is one of the largest such gatherings of Native Americans depicted.
