Lt. Frank A. Haskell, adjutant of the 6th Wisconsin Infantry. In 1862 Haskell became aide-de-camp to General John Gibbon who commanded the Iron Brigade. When Gibbon was promoted to division command, Haskell went with him. At Gettysburg, Gibbon's troops bore the brunt of Pickett's Charge, and when Gibbon was injured, Haskell rallied the troops. Haskell died in 1864 at the Battle of Cold Harbor. His eye-witness history of the Gettysburg campaign was posthumously published. It is still considered one of the classics of Civil War literature.
