Villiage of Southport
A variant of a wood engraving dated October, 1844. Incorporated as the villige of Southport in 1841 (so-named because it was the southern-most natural harbor in Wisconsin on Lake Michigan). The town was renamed Kenosha in 1850 when it became a city. The view is an illustration from the chapter "Description of the State of Wisconsin". |
