Vignetted carte-de-visite portrait of George B. Delaplaine (1814-1895), of Madison, Wisconsin. Delaplaine arrived in Madison in 1838 after having worked in Solomon Juneau's store in Milwaukee. In Madison Delaplaine served as secretary to Wisconsin's first three governors. In partnership with Elisha Burdick, he was a major invester in Madison real estate. At one time he lived in the house on Gilman Street that later became the first Governor's residence. |
