B.B. Stoller Tending Mushroom Garden
B.B. Stoller tending the University of Wisconsin mushroom garden in the "hole in the ground" which is a bricked and vaulted recess located in the hillside near the botany building. Mr. Stoller had patented a fertilizer in which mushrooms could be grown commercially, and was performing experiments on cultivating mushrooms which would result in lower commercial prices. Mr. Stoller had been doing research on mushrooms for the previous 10 years and was on leave at the University for the past 16 months from L.F. Lambert Mushroom Company, Coatesville, Pennsylvania. This underground cavern is where the famous Stephen Moulton Babcock and H.L. Russell perfected experiments in the cold curing of cheese. |
