Washington Yates Selleck
Vignetted head and shoulders portrait of Washington Yates Selleck was Wisconsin's military agent in Washington, D.C. during the Civil War. In this capacity he was responsible for the men from Wisconsin who were injured during the Battle of Gettysburg. As the representative of Governor Salomon Selleck played a leading role in the creation of the National Soldiers Cemetery at Gettysburg. Selleck was the only person from Wisconsin on the platform when President Abraham Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address. |
