Hermit Island was formerly known as Wilson Island. Frederick Prentice contracted to have Cedar Bark Lodge built in the early 1890s for his new bride but the bride refused to spend any time on the Island or at the lodge and neither Frederick Prentice nor his bride ever resided in the lodge.
