Dr. Jared Potter Kirtland, Geologist and Physician
Vignetted carte-de-visite of Dr. Jared Potter Kirtland (1793-1877), American scientist. Kirtland, among many other exploits, worked on the 1837 Ohio geological survey, and he helped to found the Cleveland Medical College, where he taught for over twenty years. Founded the Cleveland Academy of Science in 1845, which twenty later became the Kirtland Society of Natural History. Handwritten inscription at bottom of card reads, "Dr. J.P. Kirtland, 1866." |
