Description: Anti-communist brochure, copyright by Harry T. Everingham, Chicago, Illinois, in 1947. The text asks "Why not try Communism?" and replies "The answer is you can't try Communism any more than you can 'try' cyanide." Literature such as this demonstrates that conspiratorial views of Communists and their "lying sidewinder fellow-travelers" were common well before Senator Joseph R. McCarthy became a national figure by making such allegations.
