The Fall of China
Nationalist Chinese Army soldiers evacuated fron Hainan arriving in Taipei in May 1950. Their arrival was covered by NBC foreign correspondent Cecil Brown, whose papers are part of the collections of the Wisconsin Historical Society Archives. The fall of Nationalist China and Chiang Kai-Sheck's retreat to Formosa in December 1949 was evidence for many Americans that the charges made by Joseph R. McCarthy in February 1950 about communist conspiracy in the U.S. State Department were true. |
