Gertrude Johnson
Gertrude Johnson, emeritus associate professor of speech at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, shown with a phonograph album she received as a retirement gift after 35 years of teaching. The album of recordings, made by Miss Johnson herself, included selected poems and other familiar works from writers she liked. The album was a non-university project, financed by gifts from her friends and former students in 35 states, Washington, D.C. and Hawaii. She went to radio station WHA to make six sides of recordings in two hours for the album. |
