Page 65 of 70. Prophecy on page 64 reads, "The last portrait I failed to read the meaning of. Any person in the audience who will volunteer to predict the future of this singular looking object will receive a prize package of chewing gum at the close of this meeting." Did the prophet's powers fail when it came to reading her own future? It was Sarah Ana Heller who wrote the prophecy texts to accompany Albert Hansen's photography. The bucket that she is holding in the picture suggests that she is performing household chores. Indeed, she gave up her work as teacher and art supervisor in the Ironwood, Michigan schools when she married surgeon Dr. David Pierpont. Marriage did not limit her activities to the household, though. Before her untimely death in 1934, she not only raised three sons, but she also created an impressive record in public service. She was a charter member of the Ironwood Woman's Club and established the student loan board there. As the obituaries noted, this "more than charming" "Ironwood matron" had "taken a prominent part in nearly every movement launched here for the betterment of our city." Sarah Ana Heller was born 30 April 1886 in Menominee, the daughter of John A. and Evelyn L. (Fletcher) Heller. Her father was a dentist and life insurance agent, who also served as town clerk, justice of the peace, school commissioner, president of the school board and county commissioner, and he was well known in the area as an apiarist. Information about Sarah Ana Heller was obtained from Wisconsin Pre-1907 Vital Records, U.S. censuses, county histories, and obituaries.
