Pfister was a Milwaukee financier, who - among numerous business interests - was the owner of the Pfister Hotel and the Milwaukee Sentinel; see also Image ID# 62417). Payne served as director of the First National Bank of Milwaukee, president of the Wisconsin Telephone Company, Milwaukee and Northern Railroad, Milwaukee Electric Railway and Light Company, Milwaukee and Cream City Traction Company, and the American Street Railway Association. In 1893 he was appointed receiver for the bankrupt Northern Pacific Railway. He also served as the 40th U.S. Postmaster General, 1902-04. Bigelow was president of the First National Bank of Milwaukee.

Frank G. Bigelow, according to his obituary in the Milwaukee Sentinel on 10 June 1932, "was convicted in 1905 of speculations which resulted in a shortage of some $1,600,000 in the funds of his institution." He was released from Leavenworth Penitentiary in March 1911, and lived "in comparative seclusion with relatives" in Minneapolis. He is buried in Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee. |
