View Across the Tennessee River
View across the Tennessee River toward the city and Cameron Hill, showing the military bridge and some Union Army installations put up following the occupation of Chattanooga in September, 1863. The bridge was destroyed in the flood of 1867, but a pier was still visible and pointed out to visitors late in the century. The site was heavily fortified. There are many published accounts of the military engagements here. |
