| Title: |
Laveria Charmion, the Parisian Sensation. |
| Description: |
Charmion (1875-1949, born Laverie Cooper in Sacramento) was a vaudeville trapeze artist and strongwoman who performed a trapeze striptease in 1897 that made her famous. Her performance was recorded in an Edison Company silent film "Trapeze Disrobing Act" in 1901.
New York Times, 12 December 1897:
"Laveria Charmion, a female trapese performer, who will appear at Koster & Bial's this week, appears on the stage and ascends to her bar in midair in what seems to be street costume. While on the bar she gradually discards her superfluous apparel. This is accounted a 'sensational' turn."
