Snagging Sturgeon from Bridge
A large group of men are snagging sturgeon from a bridge over the Wolf River. A sturgeon is hanging from a line. More men are sitting on a bridge support, note the sign that says "NO PIPE SMOKING" with a man smoking a pipe. There is a boat under the bridge with 5 men in it. The fish were snagged for their eggs which were sold to the big city market and the fish discarded like cord wood to rot. The bridge was replaced between 1880 and 1890. |
