Mathilde Franziska Anneke was considered by her contemporaries as the most prominent woman among the German Forty-eighters. She was a social activist, feminist, educator and writer. She was born as Mathilde Franziska Giesler, April 3, 1817, in Leveringhausen, Westphalia.
