Waist-up oval studio portrait of Anon Kjellsvig [as written on the published Roster of Wisconsin Volunteers, Volume 1; also written as Amon Kjellsvig on the Regimental Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20, and written as Amon Kjelsvik on card backing of portrait], a private in Company E, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in uniform with a musket across his lap. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in York, Wisconsin. On November 29, 1861, he enlisted in Green County, Wisconsin and was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin on December 08, 1861, at the age of 22. He was captured and wounded slightly during the battle at Stone River, Tennessee. He was gained from missing in action and found to be a paroled prisoner of war at St. Louis, Missouri. He returned to active duty on June 9, 1863. He was wounded in the ankle during the Battle of Chickamauga, and was sent to a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. On August 12, 1864 he was accidentally severely wounded in his hand near Atlanta, Georgia. He mustered out with Company E on December 20, 1864, at Chattanooga, Tennessee. |
