Thor P. Sloan
Head and shoulders oval studio portrait of Thor P. Sloan, a first sergeant in Company E, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in uniform, holding a musket across his chest. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Buchanan, Wisconsin. On December 11, 1861, he enlisted in La Crosse, Wisconsin and was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin on December 20, 1862, at the age of 28. On July 1, 1863, he was detached from the Company E to serve as a clerk at 3rd Brigade headquarters. On November 21, 1863, he was sent recruiting. Then on June 21, 1864, he was wounded in the head at Kennesaw Mountain, near Kennesaw, Georgia. He died a few days later on June 28, 1864, from the wounds received. |
