Proctor's father, Henry Hugh Proctor Sr., was the pastor of the First Congregational Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and a leader in the African American community in that city. The elder H.H. Proctor’s portrait was part of the collection which W.E.B. Du Bois had assembled for his “Exhibit of American Negroes” at the 1900 Paris Exposition on the progress African Americans had achieved since attaining freedom. |
