"Huelga!" means "Strike!" in Spanish. NFWA, started by Chicano activist Cesar Chavez, stood for the National Farm Workers of America whose members were predominantly Latino. In 1966, NFWA merged with the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee (AWOC), whose members were mostly Filipino American, to form the United Farm Workers Organizing Committee (UFWOC). AWOC, then subsequently the UFWOC, were supported by the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). Grape boycotts in Wisconsin were organized by the local farm-worker labor union, Obreros Unidos (United Workers), an independent farm worker labor union effort in the 1960s.
