Otto Steen
Head and shoulders portrait of Otto Steen, a corporal in Company K, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Winneshick, Iowa. On January 21, 1862, he enlisted in Winneshick, Iowa and on February 11, 1862, he was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 16. On July 1, 1862, he was appointed to the rank of corporal. In October 1863, he was detached to serve as a guard with a supply train to Stevenson, Alabama. From December 1863 to March 1864, he was detached on recruiting service. On April 1, 1864, he was promoted to sergeant. On May 27, 1864, during the fighting near New Hope Church, Georgia, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war in Dallas, Georgia. He was mustered out of service on April 15, 1865, per General Order No. 77. |
