| Description: |
Color lithograph poster. Title runs across the top with the author's name just below it upper right. Scene from the drama shows a boy dressed in gray uniform leaving his mother, with a soldier waiting in the background. Caption at bottom runs: "Good bye mother; -- You won't mind, will you!"
William Gillette, an actor, author and stage manager best-known for his portrayals of Sherlock Holmes, wrote and starred in this, one of his most successful plays that ran in London. After its premiere at the Garrick Theatre in New York, the play had several revivals at the Empire and, as recently as 1976, at the Playhouse Theatre. The poster probably depicts William Courleigh in the lead.
