Head and shoulders portrait of Iver A. Brandt, a first sergeant in Company D, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. On October 31, 1861, he enlisted in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and on December 8, 1861, he was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 27. Shortly after being mustered into service, he was appointed to the rank of corporal. He received a subsequent promotion in May 1862 to sergeant. On December 1, 1862, he was appointed to the rank of first sergeant.  During fighting at Stone River, Tennessee he was severely wounded and was sent to a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee until August 1863.  After recovering from the wounds he received, he was stationed at Camp Dennison, a recruiting and training post in Ohio, until he was mustered out with his company in Chattanooga, Tennessee on February 25, 1865.
