Poster for "Mr. Blarney from Ireland" |
| Description: |
Color lithograph poster on paper. Across the top is the caption "Chas. E. Blaney presents," flanked by smaller banners left and right. The left banner reads "The famous irish tenor" and the right "In his musical comedy drama." Below this and above the title is "Fiske O'Hara" followed by the title in large print, under which is "by Chas. E. Blaney." The image shows a man removing money from a safe with "Michael Murphy Real Estate" above it. Another man looks on disapprovingly with his hands in his pockets. The lower caption quotes a line from the play: "Charlie boy! You're robbing your own father! But I'm responsible for every cint [sic] in that safe!" The poster has several small tears at the bottom.

Additional Information: |
Blaney's temperance drama, written for the Stair and Havlin circuit, opened first at the Arch Street Theatre in Philadelphia, which he managed. Once in New York, it ran for just 16 performances, first at The American Theatre and then the West End. Fiske O'Hara, the well-respected tenor, contributed songs such as "Rollicking Blarney O" and "Sunbeam of My Heart." |
