Information:
O'Brien was said the perform a "realistic darky" rather than a caricature, although he featured eccentric characters. His career began in 1889 as an endman in upstate New York companies. He performed as part of duos (O'Brien and Bell; Bogart and O'Brien) before joining Haverly's in 1892 and working with them in between the periods of running his own company. He is reported to have received one of the highest salaries paid to a minstrel performer.
