Following unsuccessful attempts at farce in works like "A Hole In the Ground" (1887), Charles H. Hoyt progressed in this rural comedy to the point he received warmer reviews and a longer run (136 performances), presaging his later success. Beth Bedford had a breakout performance as Annie Grey.
