O'Konski and Obey
Wisconsin congressmen David Obey (left) and former congressman Alvin O'Konski breaking ground for a United States Forest Services genetics lab. After the census of 1970 much of O'Konski's northern Wisconsin district was combined into Obey's district, and the two men were forced to run against each other in 1972. Although O'Konski lost, this event recognized his contribution to the facility addition. |
