Performing Horses
Three performing horses stand on platforms in a ring as their trainer gestures proudly in the foreground. Behind the ring are banners decorated with horses, cows, and a clown. A sign advertises the Fun on the Farm show (of which this performance was a part) and another, titled Civilization at Its Worst details arguments against use of oleomargarine. Another man stands in the background outside the ring. |

"Fun on the Farm" was a circus-like show featuring trained horses and bulls. Directed by John M. Kelley and John R. Agee, the show was presented at fairs and in connection with dairy-industry interests, particularly the anti-oleomargarine campaign. This image is of a presentation at the Fond du Lac County Fair. Kelley was a dairyman and former lawyer for Ringling Brothers Circus. |
