The caption bellow the photography reads: "RIB LAKE, TAYLOR COUNTY, WIS. — This thriving village is located upon the banks of the beautiful lake bearing the same name. The above gives a glimpse of one of its streets. The large building at the end of the street is a boarding house operated in connection with the saw mill. There is also here a tannery and charcoal kiln. The lands immediately surrounding are of the very finest for agriculture and the opportunities for the poor man to get a start upon a piece of the land are excelled.

Information: 		Part of the promotional materials created by the Wisconsin Central Railroad Company Land Commissioner to publicize the sale of land in northern Wisconsin, primarily in Price, Taylor, and Ashland counties, owned by the railroad, circa 1895. One side of the card has illustrations of farming conditions, crops, forest resources, homesteads, small towns, and rural scenes in northern Wisconsin. A number of the illustrations are from photographs made by Harvey J. Perkins for "Northern Wisconsin: a hand-book for the homeseeker" and "Hand book of Price County." The reverse side of the card has text touting the abundance of resources available in northern Wisconsin, some of which was taken from "Northern Wisconsin: a hand-book for the homeseeker", edited by William A. Henry.
