State Fair Centennial Mural Study Sketch

State Fair Centennial Mural Study Sketch | Painting | Wisconsin Historical Society
Prior to the 1948 State Fair, artist Robert Hodgell traveled Wisconsin to study its many landscapes. He then produced a series of study sketches outlining the mural compositions. This is one of his original study sketches. The final mural canvas has not been found.

The final canvas illustrated early subsistence living with a settler hunting wild game in a small field of cut stumps; the first attempt to tame the wilderness.
