David Obey at Ground Zero
Congressman Bill Young of Florida (left), chair of the House Appropriations Committee, and Congressman David R. Obey of Wisconsin, the ranking committee Democrat, toured the World Trade Center site a few days after the 9/11 attack to see the damage first-hand. They are standing at the intersection of Vesey and West, between 6 World Trade Center and the Verizon Building, both of which were heavily damaged by the collapse of the twin towers. The 6 WTC building was ultimately razed; the Verizon Building, an architectural landmark, was restored. |
